THE National Karate team has started preparations for the upcoming world championships slated for 21-25 November in Paris, France.
Rwanda Karate Federation (RKF) Technical Director, Guy Rurangayire, said, “We have started training with 25 players and at the end of it all we will zero in on 18 best players who will compete in the World Championships.” The team is training at Amahoro National stadium.
According to Rurangayire, they need Rfw44 million to prepare and send 18 players (8 girls and 10 boys) to the championships.
“With money available, we can prepare and be ready to compete for world honours with a full team. But our participation will depend on the available funds.”
The national team won two bronze medals in the just-concluded Africa Karate Championship held in Morocco.
Rehema Kabera won kumite bronze medal in women category while Sylvestre Twajemahoro secured kata bronze medal in men’s category.
